International Affairs
  • G20 Leaders' Summit began at Saint Petersburg, Russia. 
  • Poland has said it will transfer government bonds held by private pension funds to the state pension sector in a move aimed at curbing public debt amid an economic slowdown.
  • IMF approves USD 6.7 billion as financial aid to Pakistan to prevent it from a brink of economic collapse, as the country is "facing serious economic challenges".
  • The White House announced that the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and US President Barack Obama will be held as per schedule on September 27, despite the latter being busy due to ongoing Syrian crisis.
  • Agatha Christie's mustachioed detective Hercule Poirot is to be resurrected in a new novel nearly 40 years after his last adventures. British crime writer Sophie Hannah has been commissioned to write the as yet untitled book, the first continuation novel in Christie's celebrated series about the Belgian sleuth.

National Affairs
  • Teacher's Day is celebrated across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of former president and eminent scholar Dr Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan.
  • The Lok Sabha passed the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill 2011, an important economic legislation that will pave the way for foreign investment in the sector.
  • The Rajya Sabha approved the Land Acquisition Bill which seeks to provide fair and just compensation to farmers and to those who lose livelihood on account of acquisition.
  • Maharashtra Deputy CM AjitPawar directs officials to prepare an action plan in 15 days to counter malnutrition cases in the state.
  • Delhi Jal Board decided to implement a number of projects including renovation of the Chandrawal water treatment plant, to streamline the water distribution network in various areas of the city.
  • Two arrested in Maharastra for "miracle remedy" for Cancer and AIDS under the recently passed Anti-BlackMagic and Superstition Law.
  • The 30th annual five day film festival conducted by the government under the banner 'Indian Panorama' to be begin at Puducherri on 6th September 2013.
  • In a bid to expedite infrastructure projects in the State, the Odisha Government approved the Rs 1,292.56-crore four-laning project of the State highway between Sambalpur and Rourkela, official sources said on Thursday.
  • President PranabMukherjee presented the 55th edition of the prestigious National Awards 2012 to teachers on the occasion of Teachers Day.

  • Deepak Sandhu takes oath as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). She is the first woman CIC of the Central Information Commission.
Deaths
  • Indian author Sushmita Banerjee (49)  shot dead in Afghanistan. Banerjee's book "Kabuliwalar Bangali Bou" (A Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife), about her escape from the Taliban in 1995, became a bestseller in India and was made into the Bollywood film "Escape From Taliban" in 2003.

  • Chhattisgarh has been selected for this year's prestigious National Literacy Award for the first time since its formation in November 2000.

  • New RBI Governor RaghuramRajan will come out with first policy  statement on September 20.
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts global growth will accelerate in 2014 compared to this year.
  • Retirement fund manager EPFO will launch an online facility where over 5 crore subscribers can view their updated accounts.
