Numerical Ability - What to Prepare ?

After the announcement of IBPS notifications for various exams we've got more than 60 queries asking the difference between Quantitative Aptitude and Numerical Ability. This is because they've mentioned Quantitative Aptitude in PO's notification but they've asked for Numerical Ability in Clerical (RRB's) notification. So in this post we shall discuss about what the Numerical Ability is and what should we prepare for this section. 

What is Numerical Ability ?

The word Numerical Ability is derived from the word Numeracy, which meant the ability to apply simple numerical concepts. So we can define the Numerical Ability as the ability to solve numerical problems using the four fundamental rules of arithmetic. Those are

1. Addition
2. Subtraction
3. Multiplication and
4. Division

So, the main focus of this section is to check the candidate's ability of calculating basic mathematical problems in less time (calculation based). Where as in Quantitative Aptitude they will check the candidate's ability of applying his / her own logic to solve the given problems (formula based).

Important Note : But now a days they are using the terms Numerical Ability and Quantitative Aptitude almost  interchangeably.

Friends, here is another post related to Banking Awareness which will be helpful for your upcoming IBPS Banking Exams. In this post we shall discuss about Banking Ombudsman Scheme which enables the resolution of complaints of customers of banks relating to certain services rendered by the banks. 

Banking Ombudsman : An ombudsman is a senior official appointed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with a significant degree of independence, who investigates complaints of normal people for violation of Services of the bank. In simple words, if you are not satisfied with the bank's services, then you can go to Ombudsman and file a complaint against the bank. There are fifteen Banking Ombudsmen have been appointed with their offices located mostly in state capitals as of now. 

Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2006 : The Banking Ombudsman scheme was introduced in the year 2006 to receive and deal with the public complaints against the banks of deficiencies in specified types of services. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced this scheme under BR Acti 1949. The Banking Ombudsman is headed in the rank of Chief General Manager. Appointed by RBI to be known as Ombudsmen. The scheme facilitates to improve the customer service, help the customers to aware of their rights. 

The customer can give his complaint to the Branch Manager and it should be responded by the Branch Manager and it should be responded by the Branch Manager with in 30 days, if not the customer can file the complaint before Banking Ombudsman. 

Amendments :

• In the year May 2007, the RBI has amended the Banking Ombudsman Scheme to enable the customers to appeal against the Banking Ombudsman's decision. Before the scheme was amended, the bank customers could appeal only against the awards given by the Banking Ombudsman. The appellate authority for the Banking Ombudsman Scheme is the Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India.
• The RBI has amended the scheme again on 3rd February 2009, to include deficiencies arising out of internet banking. According to this new amended scheme, a customer would also be able to lodge a complaint against the bank for its non-adherence to the provisions of the fair practices code for lenders or the Code of Bank's Commitment to Customers issued by the Banking Codes and Standards Board of India (BCSBI). 
• In 4th January 2013 the RBI has set up a working group to evaluate and make improvements in this scheme.

 IBPS Regional Rural Banks Office Assistants (Clerks) Exam Syllabus

Friends, in our last post we have discussed the detailed syllabus of IBPS RRB Officer Scale I Recruitment Exam. In this post we shall discuss the syllabus of IBPS RRB Clerks (Office Assistants). As we've already mentioned in our previous post, the syllabus of both the IBPS RRB POs and Clerks are same, but the difficulty level varies. Lets first discuss the pattern of the exam later we shall discuss the difficulty level and syllabus. This time the exam is going to be online. This exam consists of the following sections. Each sections consists of 40 Questions . You should solve them in 2 hours and 30 minutes time.

2. Numerical Ability                ----------    50 Marks
3. General Awareness               ----------    40 Marks
4.  English / Hindi Language (You can choose any of these according to your state)

Difficulty Level of the Exam : The IBPS RRB Office Assistants / Clerical Exam is the most easiest exam among the all exams conducted by IBPS (IBPS POs, Clerks / IBPS RRB POs, Clerks / IBPS Specialist Officers, RRB Specialist Officers). In most of the cases you will get direct questions, there are less chances for getting twisted questions. So if you work hard, you easily can good marks in this exam.

Now lets have a look at the detailed syllabus of Office Assistants (Multipurpose) Exam.

Numerical Ability : As you might have already observed , for Officers Scale I, II and III they have mentioned Quantitative Aptitude. But for clerical they've mentioned it as Numerical Ability. Whats the difference? For Quantitative Aptitude they mainly focus on concepts but for Numerical Ability they just check your basic calculation skills. Today's exam was too lengthy,too much time consuming.

Numerical ability : It was easy but too lenghty .All simplication problems .

English : Too easy

Current affairs : 80% banking

Computers : Too easy,4-5 questions from word ,and 2-3 questions from excel

Logical reasoning : I didnt get time to solve basic circular arrangement problems as it was a lil tough ,may be due to scarcity of time

The paper was easy.numerical ability is time consuming and general awareness is not only from current affairs.They asked more from banking background but in a twisted way.English and reasoning section very easy.Last but not Least,in any of the questions we do not find "none of these"option.so be careful in calculations.

one question on probability:a bag has 3 black balls and 4 red balls.3 balls are thrown random,wht is the probability that both are red.

one question from areas section:area of square is given.length is half of square and breadth is half of length.find twice the perimeter of rectangle.

2 questions on series to find the next number.Lot of simplification problems(square roots of numbers with 4 digits and  numbers with 6 digits,squares of a number and BODMAS)

Reasoning :

seating arrangement one(very easy)

syllogism also easy

coding and decoding

Input and output arrangement(very long)

Data sufficiency

group reasoning(like i,j,k,l,m,n and o are names of a person and they live on room numbers 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and live in different countries like japan,korea etc and gives a paragragh where we will come to knw some conclusions.based on this questions are given)

One word is given(for example Democracy).Vowels are replaced by next letter in the alphabet series and consonants are replaced by previous letter and made in alphabetical order.the the middle word is)

It contain problems on decimal.  Parts of Computer System

Friends, what are the names come to your mind when we ask to tell the parts of computers? Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Computer Case / CPU and Power Cord right? But technically speaking  computer has only Two parts. These two types of parts  are essential to work together to make it run. Those are,

1. Hardware (all the above mentioned parts come under this category)
2. Software (list of instructions)

Now lets have a detailed look,

Hardware : It Refers to the physical components of a computer system. Examples of hardware are keyboard, monitor, hard disk, floppy disk, mouse, microprocessor etc.

Software : The software is the set of instructions (called programs) written for a computer to perform a particular task. Generally, software is written in any one of the computer languages (c, c++, Java etc). The software can be classified as two types. Those are,

1. System Software and  
2. Application Software.

System Software : It refers to a collection of programs which provides vital services to the users and makes the computer user friendly. In simple words it works as a mediator between the computer and the user.

Examples : Operating Systems and Compilers.

Application Software : It refers to the programs usually written by programmers for performing their desired tasks.

Examples : Email, Games etc

Logically computer needs two things to perform / work. Those are Data and User.

Data : The data consists raw facts, these facts transform into information after processing by a computer. This data can be test, sound and video. This data will be stored in digital form (1s and 0s) in computer. The organized data is called as a file.

User : The person who works with computer. Users are ultimate beneficiaries of a computer system so we cant even imagine a computer without an user. We can classify them into two types. Those are,

1. Computer Professionals : Those people who write programs and develop software (Software Engineers).
2. End Users : The end user is the individual who uses the computer after it has been fully developed. All of us are end users. We use computer to post on our blog. You use your computer to read those posts. 

Important Note : The software which is permanently stored in memory (ex ROM) which performs some of the hardware functions is called Firmware.

 LIC AAO Interviews will be held in August / September 2013

Friends, here is an important notice for those people who have appeared for LIC Assistant Administrative Officer (Generalist) Online Exam which was held on 11th, 12th, 17th and 19th May and 23rd June 2013. The organization has already announced the results of above mentioned exams on 15th July 2013. Now according to the new notice released by the organization, the interviews of LIC AAO will be held on August / September 2013.

The individual marks of the candidates and cut off marks for various categories will be put up on LIC's website within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result (after conducting personal interview)
