• Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called for a Prime Minister-level summit between India and Pakistan saying it was crucial that the two countries resumed bilateral discussions.
• India announces Rs 5,000 crore aid for Bhutan as socio-economic development move.

National Affairs

• To boost tourism industry in the state, Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to start cable car service for the Shiv Khouri shrine in Reasi district.
• Sonia Gandhi launches Ahimsa Messenger program to address violence against Women and Children.'Ahimsa Messenger' programme would spread awareness to the grassroots about the legal rights of women and children.

Awards (important)

• The National Sports Awards were presented today to the country's top athletes and coaches with shooter Ronjan Sodhi getting the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna the country's highest sporting honour while cricketer Virat Kohli was among the Arjuna awardees.

 Sports

• India's Leander Paes, Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan, with their partners, to play Doubles second round matches of the US Open Tennis in New York today.
• India's Somdev Devvarman crashes out of US Open Tennis.

Economy

• The Reserve Bank today said it is not contemplating any proposal to buy idle gold and convert it into bullion.The RBI clarifies that no such proposal is under its consideration at this juncture.
• Sensex gains 219 points to close at 18,620; Rupee appreciates 85 paise.
• Petrol price has been hiked by 2 rupees 35 paise per litre, and diesel by 50 paise. This will come in to force by midnight tonight.

Earlier the organization has conducted an Online Test on 26th May 2013, Descriptive test on 23rd June 2013. • India's economic growth slumped to 4.4 percent during the quarter ended June 30,due to poor showing of manufacturing, mining and agriculture sectors, government data released today.

• Afghanistan President Karzai met Pakistan President Nawaj Sharif for the first time since his election in May in a bid to overcome a series of public rows that have hampered efforts to end 12 years of war in Afghanistan.
• Senior officials from Pakistan and China today discussed various aspects of multi-billion dollar economic corridor project that envisages the construction of a 200 km-long strategic tunnel through the rugged PoK region.

National Affairs

• Keen to get the investment cycle re-started, the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) has cleared three dozen projects envisaging an investment of Rs 1.83 lakh crore.
• In a move to create more jobs in the state West Bengal government is planning to give licenses for setting up distilleries and bottling plants.
• Rs 1,500 crore science research project to study atmospheric neutrinos in deep underground cave, taking shape at village near Madurai (TN).
• Over 300 gynaecologists, paediatricians and radiologistswould participate in a two-day 'Sujanan conference' on genetics and foetal medicine in Nasic.
• Prasar Bharati, the  India's largest public broadcaster will assist the Afghan government broadcaster - Radio and Television Afghanistan (RTA) to start a news channel in the war-ravaged country. It signed an MOU with RTV, Radio & Television of Afghanistan to enhance cooperation in Broadcasting..

• SEBI has decided to increase the penalty for those running unauthorised Collective Investment Schemes, as the existing mechanism has not proved to be sufficient to deter such illegal mobilisation of money.
• US-based pharmaceutical firm Mylan Inc’s Rs 5,168 crore proposal to acquire Indian generic drugs company Agila Specialties was cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) today.
• State Bank of India on Tuesday said it may merge one of the five associate banks in the current fiscal.

• Rupee closes at all-time low of 68.80, down 256 paise from yesterday.

• Usain Bolt is not worried about tarnishing his career by failing to retain his 100 and 200 metres Olympic titles in Rio de Janeiro in three years' time.
