INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
  • Russia and Government of India agreed on collaboration tojointly develop and manufacture civilian aircraft and helicopters for especially for emergency relief and medical purposes. Russian Government also offered to set up manufacturing facilities in the India for joint production of defence hardware.
  • Ecuador President Rafael Correa meets Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro.
  • For the first time, Sri Lanka introduced transparent ballot boxes imported from India in select polling centres instead of the traditional wooden ones to ensure free and fair polls.
NATIONAL EVENTS
  • Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid a foundation stones for an airport in Kishangarh and Jaipur Metro Rail phase-1B in Jaipur.
  • Assam government launched 'Swavalamban Pension Scheme'. As per the scheme named 'Swavalamban Pension Scheme', a person with a minimum contribution of Rs 1,000 per year will get an equal amount of contribution from the government.
  • Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has introduced a monthly monitoring system for all AICC secretaries ahead of next Lok Sabha polls and ensuing assembly elections in five states.
  • India on saturday said it was monitoring the situation in Nairobi, where a terror attack in a mall has left at least 30 people dead, and all its mission staff were reportedly safe.
  • 'The Good Road', a lost-and-found story of a small boy, was nominated to represent India in the Best Foreign Film category at next year's Oscars.

APPOINTMENTS
  • Jawaid Akhtar, the Chairman of Coffee Board of India, was elected as the Chairperson of the International Coffee Council at the meetings of the International Coffee Organization which took place on 9 September 2013 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

  • The use of the biological markers like fingerprints, faces and irises to identify people is rapidly moving from science fiction to reality. Apple's latest iPhone can be unlocked with a fingerprint.The Federal Bureau of Investigation is developing facial recognition technology that would allow it to pinpoint criminals and suspects in large crowds of people with closed-circuit cameras.
  • A scientist from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and his student have successfully applied Albert Einstein's gravity theory to unlock the mysteries of black holes.

  • Malaysia's world number one Lee Chong Wei crushed fifth-seeded Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam to reach the Japan Open final today.
  • Kerala athletes P U Chitra and Mohammed Afzal clinch golden medals each in first-ever Asian School Track and Field Championship in Malaysia.
  • Indian women's Hockey team defeats HongKong 13-0 in their opening Pool A match of Asia Cup tournament.
  • Grandmaster Sethuraman to take on Alexander Ipatov in the eighth round of World Junior Chess championship.
