INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
- One third of the food produced worldwide is wasted, costing the global economy around USD 750 billion a year, a new report by the UN food agency announced on 11th September.
- India and Japan decided to look at the possibility of setting up a Japanese Electronics Manufacturing Township (JEMT) .The township will help India reduce imports of electronic goods and contain trade deficit. Last year, India imported electronic goods worth $32 billion.
- The state-run University of Liberia (UL) and India's O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for research collaboration and student exchange.
- India-China hold talks on Science and Technology after 11 years; to step up cooperation in earthquake prediction, disaster management.
NATIONAL EVENTS
- The Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari presented the First Sree Narayan Guru Global Secular & Peace Award 2013 to Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human Resources Development, Government of India at a function in Thiruvananthpuram, Kerala on 10 September 2013.
- India's first individual Olympic silver medallist shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore entered politics to change the perception about the "hated profession" by doing his bit for the nation. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Science and Technology
- Soyuz capsule with two Russians and an American touched down on Earth from International Space Station following 166 days in space.
- A rare sub-species of butterfly has been discovered by two scientists at Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, much to the delight of in the country.
APPOINTMENTS
- Ashok Vemuri was appointed as the President and CEO of the iGate Corporation on 11 September 2013. His term to the office will commence from 16 September 2013.
- Puneet Talwar, an Indo American was nominated as the Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs by the US President Barack Obama.
SPORTS
- Italy and the Netherlands became the first European nations to clinch qualification for the2014 World Cupfinals with victories on a busy night of action.
- Afghanistan beat India 2-0 to lift the South Asian Football Federation, SAFF Championship trophy.
