How Can I Succeed

Once a person asked Socrates, an ancient Greek philosopher, what is the the secret of Success. Socrates thought for a moment and then told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning.

The met next morning. Socrates told the young man to walk with him inside the river.

When the water got up to their necks, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The man struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him under water until he started turning blue.

The young man struggled hard and finally managed to get up. The first thing he did was to gasp and take a deep breath.

Socrates asked, “What did you want the most when you were under the water?”

The man replied “Air”.

Socrates said: “That’s the most secret to success. When you want success as badly as you want air, you will get it. There is no other secret”.

Moral of the story:

A burning desire is the starting point of all accomplishments. Just like a small fire cannot give much heat, a weak desire cannot produce great results.

So friends, exams are approaching fast and you should be devoted to your preparation with complete focus on exams. Success will surely come to you. All the best!

How to justify a GAP in IBPS Interview

Many candidates are worried about the gap in their education or the GAP in their work experience. As per our experience, if you have a substantial GAP in your education qualification or work experience, then this might be one of the probable question which can be asked to you during your interview.

In some case, there are genuine reasons for a GAP like - Marriage (in case of married ladies), accident or some family problem or any other similar problem. In such cases, it is better to tell interviewers about actual reason.

But in most of the cases, a GAP is created as candidates in a dedicated manner prepare for competitive exams and many a times, they join a Coaching Institute for Preparation by leaving there jobs.

In such cases, We feel, the best way to answer this question is - to be honest and tell them frankly that you were preparing for  IBPS or bank jobs (if you do not have any other genuine reason for GAP). As soon as you say this, their next question generally is - did you join a coaching institute for this. We suggest that you should never say in the interview that you joined a coaching for preparation, as generally interviewers perceive this negatively.

Rather, you should say that I prepared myself. If you belong to a poor background, you can also tell them that you can not afford a coaching that is why you are preparing on your own.

They might also ask you - which books did you refer for your preparation? So, be ready with the list of books.

So, go prepared with a story justifying your GAP. Do not feel bad about this GAP, as most of the candidates have a GAP between jobs or educational qualifications. At the same time, do not be clueless if someone asks you about the same.

In the same sequence, they might ask you - why you do you want to join a Bank or why a government job? We will answer these two queries in our next post.

Why do you want to join a bank ? Or why a government job

During IBPS Interview, one of the most frequently asked question is why a bank? or why a government job?

You should answer these questions very carefully as these are critical to your selection and your answer can make or break your chances of final selection.

Well, motive of asking these questions is whether you have clarity in your thoughts and you are well aware of - why you are preparing for a bank job. Many a times, candidates just prepare for exams, as their friends are doing the same or there is some family pressure. If a interviewer comes to find out this, they consider the candidate as immature and unsuitable.

Interviewers are looikg for smart & confident candidates, who are well aware and are ready to take responsibility of their actions.

Why do you want to join a bank?
Banking sector is a sunrise sector of Indian economy. It is one of the fastest growing sector as banks are expanding their reach across the geography. As probationary Officer role is a multi-dimensional role, it offers unparalleled opportunities for learning and growth. Many of the chairman of the PSU banks had joined the bank as Probationary officers only. It gives us a glimpse of opportunities in a PSU Bank. Moreover, Banking is a very respected profession in India and we get a social status and respect as a Banker.

Why a government job?
A government job provides job security and commands much more respect in society than a private job.

By any chance, if some of your relates, parents etc are associated with a government job or bank, you should cite the example of such cases and mention that you have seen these poeple and they have been your inspiration.

What NOT to say in a IBPS Interview -

  • My friends were preparing for IBPS, hence I also prepared for the same.
  • One can earn a lot of money in government jobs (by any means)
  • My family want me to join a bank or government job
  • I want to prove to my family and friends that I can crack bank exams
  • I want to take some experience in a government job and then will move to private one
  • There are no jobs in private and hence government job

Essentially, do not tell the interviewers their you are an unaware person or you are doing it just for fun or you are being forced to do it.

Wish you all the best for IBPS Interview !
