International Affairs

  • President Barack Obama has said that US administration is ready to accept a short term increase in debt ceiling along with reopening of the federal government and then negotiate rest of the issues with the Republicans.
  • The United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) has held that France violated the religious freedom of 57-year-old Shingara Mann Singh by asking him to remove his turban for his passport photograph in 2005 and also failed to demonstrate that the curb imposed on him was necessary.
  • British foreign secretary William Hague said on Tuesday that Britain and Iran had embarked on a process that could lead to the reopening of their embassies after diplomatic relations broke down in 2011.

National Affairs
  • The Maldives must hold a fresh round of presidential polls before October 20, the Supreme Court has ruled while annulling the first phase as the government on Tuesday appealed to all parties to support new elections.
  • Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said it was impossible for India to normalize its relations with Pakistan until the neighbouring country stops infiltration and ceasefire violations.

  • India is projected to see moderate average annual growth of 5.9 per cent during the 2014-18 period amid the country witnessing macroeconomic weaknesses, according to Paris-based think tank OECD.
  • Software giant Adobe, which makes software such as Photoshop and Acrobat, will repurchase stock worth $2 billion by fiscal 2015.
  • After raising a massive $200 million investment a few months back, E-commerce giant Flipkart has now raised an additional $160 million in its latest funding round from new and existing investors.
  • The United States launches on Tuesday a new $100 bill that comes with, for the iconic greenback, a new touch of color, as well as special features to foil counterfeiters.
