International Affairs
- The US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel has called his Egyptian counterpart to discuss the current security situation in the country and progress on the political roadmap, said Pentagon Press Secretary, George Little.
- The Taliban on Friday denied shooting dead Indian writer Sushmita Banerjee, whose murder Afghan officials blamed on the insurgent militia fighting against the government for 12 years.
- Turkey has beefed up its military presence along its southern border with Syria in anticipation of strikes on the regime in Damascus.
National Affairs
- Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari will inaugurate the 12th international meet of SAARC Engineers Forum on Saturday.
- The government on Thursday deferred the Right to Information (RTI) Amendment Bill due to lack of consensus among political parties. The amended bill will be send to the Parliamentary Standing Committee. Once the Standing Committee clears the amended bill, it will likely come for debate in Parliament in the Winter Session.
- Addressing the G20 summit held in Russia, Dr Singh said that Growth in emerging markets, which was strong until recently, has slowed down significantly. He further said that strengthening of growth in some industrialized countries may not be a good news as it is not broad based.
- Complying with the Supreme Court directive, the Union Home Ministry has asked all states to ban across-the-counter sale of acid in the wake of rising incidents of attacks on women using the chemical.
- Marathi film "Mee Sindhutai Sakpal" and a Hindi film "Hunterwali" will be showcased at upcoming Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF).
- Railways has given green signal to Japan for conducting a detailed study for the proposed 543 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor, in another step towards implementing the bullet train project.

- Gross direct tax collections during April-August of the Financial Year 2013-14 is up by 14.43 percent at Rs.1,88,193 crore as against Rs. 1,64,463 crore in the same period last year.

- World acclaimed orchestra conductor Zubin Mehta was conferred the prestigious Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony on Friday by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.
- Important Point to Note : He is the second recipient after Sitar maestro late Pandit Ravi Shankar.
- Vaagai Sooda Vaa, a tamil movie directed by A. Sarkunam recieved Rs 1 lakh award in the 30th annual five day film festival conducted by the government under the banner 'Indian Panorama' at Puducherry.
