(Morning Shift)
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)
conducted 1st installment of online examination, for the recruitment
of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee, across the country on the 19th of
October, 2013.
Overall the examination was moderate,
comparatively easier than last years’ examination. This time IBPS surprised the
candidates by not following the middle-of-the-road pattern for the Numerical
Ability section. It skipped the approximation and simplification questions in
the paper. General awareness section was
easier than expected as it contained more direct questions. More conceptual
based questions were there in sections such as Reasoning, English, and Computer
Knowledge. There were 200 questions in the paper, which had to be answered in 120 minutes. There were five sections in all - Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, English Language and Computer Knowledge. Except for English Language all the other sections were available bilingually. Each question had 5 options. There was negative marking of one-fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question for all the sections.
The pattern of test was as follows:

Questions on Arithmetic and Data Interpretation dominated this section. Surprisingly, there were no questions from Simplification and Approximation. In general, it was of moderate difficulty level. 3 sets of DI was calculative and short-cut calculations would have come handy.
