International Affairs
  • Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called for a Prime Minister-level summit between India and Pakistan saying it was crucial that the two countries resumed bilateral discussions.
  • India announces Rs 5,000 crore aid for Bhutan as socio-economic development move.

National Affairs
  • To boost tourism industry in the state, Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to start cable car service for the Shiv Khouri shrine in Reasi district.
  • Sonia Gandhi launches Ahimsa Messenger program to address violence against Women and Children.'Ahimsa Messenger' programme would spread awareness to the grassroots about the legal rights of women and children.

  • The National Sports Awards were presented today to the country's top athletes and coaches with shooter Ronjan Sodhi getting the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna the country's highest sporting honour while cricketer Virat Kohli was among the Arjuna awardees.

  • The Reserve Bank today said it is not contemplating any proposal to buy idle gold and convert it into bullion.The RBI clarifies that no such proposal is under its consideration at this juncture.
  • Sensex gains 219 points to close at 18,620; Rupee appreciates 85 paise.
  • Petrol price has been hiked by 2 rupees 35 paise per litre, and diesel by 50 paise. This will come in to force by midnight tonight.
