International Affairs
- India and Malaysia will explore ways to strengthen their military ties during the five-day visit of Navy chief Admiral D K Joshi to Kuala Lumpur starting from 22nd September.
- South Africa and India will jointly hold an inter-ministerial conference as well as a business meet later this month to enhance bilateral trade relations.
- World leaders hold their first-ever UN meeting on 22nd September to explore how the more than 1 billion disabled people in countries rich and poor can contribute to the global economy instead of being a drain on society.
- Two Indians are among 59 killed in a bloody massacre by armed terrorists at a crowded, upscale mall in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Saturday. Nearly 300 people, including four Indians, have been wounded in the lethal assault.
- Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday wrote to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, condemning the terror attack in Nairobi in which two Indians were among those killed and said a concerted global effort is required to control such mindless violence.

- Irked over slow progress in clearing mineral concession applications in states, the Centre has asked mineral-rich states to clear them "strictly within the time-frame stipulated" in rules.
- Alvaro Mutis, an award-winning Colombian poet, essayist and novelist influential throughout the Spanish-speaking world, died in Mexico City.

- Justice Darmar Murugesan, the former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on 21 September appointed as member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for a five-year term.

- India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is slated to be launched on October 28 after a national committee of experts gave the go ahead for the Rs. 450-crore ambitious venture after threadbare deliberations.

- Grappler Sandeep Tulsi Yadav created history by winning India’s first-ever medal in the Greco-Roman category of the Senior World Wrestling Championships after beating Serbia’s Aleksandar Maksimovic in the 66kg division.
