- Nepalese Army Chief General Gaurav Shamsher J B Rana will undertake a week-long visit to India from September 29 to strengthen military-to-military ties, including supply of hardware to Nepal Army.
- French President Francois Hollande will meet his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rowhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly next week, Hollande's office announced.

- The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to set up a 9 MMTPA greenfield refinery cum petrochemical complex in Barmer District in Rajasthan, as a Joint Venture (JV) with Government of Rajasthan under the name HPCL-Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL).

- Actor Aamir Khan has been selected for a U.S. award for his television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ along with eminent American director Kathryn Bigelow and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC). They will be honoured at the inaugural awards dinner by the America Abroad Media (AAM) in Washington DC on October 28.
- Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and tennis ace Leander Paes will be conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards, while successful football coach Subhas Bhowmick will be given 'Guru Ratna' by the state government at a function on September 28.

- Former secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, Jaywant Yeshwant Lele passed away at his residence in Vadodara following a massive heart attack.
Appointments
- Justice Prafulla Chandra Pant sworn-in as the Chief Justice of newly established Meghalaya High Court, a month after its first Chief Justice, Justice (Retd) T Meena Kumari retired from office.
- TV Narendran appointed new Tata Steel MD for India, South East Asia. Narendran will succeed incumbent H M Nerurkar, who is retiring on October 31 upon attaining the age of superannuation.

- In a surprise move, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hiked its key policy interest rate by 0.25 percent but cut some of the measures it had announced to support the battered rupee.
- Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting created history by winning the prestigious Durand Cup Football tournament after a gap of 73 years, defeating ONGC 2-1 in the final.
