NATIONAL EVENTS
- Prime Minister Manmohan Singh left for India after attending the G20 Summit where he said the movement of labour should be free across nations without restrictions as it can otherwise stifle growth.
- West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has taken an initiative to bring back the body of slain author Sushmita Banerjee to Kolkata from Afghanistan.
- Amid the talk of a decision on Narendra Modi being projected as BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate anytime soon, RSS said it has already made its position clear on the key issue and it was for BJP to take a decision on it.
- Delhi became the first State on Friday to lay down comprehensive guidelines for prevention of child abuse. The guidelines are slated to serve as a model for other States.
- With the international music conductor Zubin Mehta kicking off his concert in Shalimar Gardens on the banks of the famous Dal Lake in Srinagar, the BJP members in Rajya Sabha on Saturday demanded 'Bharat Ratna' (country's highest civilian honour) for him.
- The Karnataka State government will implement the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA) for strengthening gram panchayats and gram sabhas by providing training to members. A sum of Rs. 100 crore has been allocated for its implementation in this financial year.
- The inaugural run of the Coimbatore-Rameswaram Weekly Express would be held on Sept 17th.

- Australia's conservative opposition led by Tony Abbott is poised to post a landslide victory in national elections over Labor Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. He will be sworn in as the 28th prime minister of Australia.
- The Italian coast guard said that it had rescued more than 700 migrants and refugees, including many Syrians and Egyptians, from four struggling boats, the latest in a surge of refugee arrivals.
- Senior Congress leader and famous lyricist Vithalbhai Patel (78) passed away after prolonged illness. "Jhoot bole kauwa kaate" is among many popular songs penned by him.

- Indian American Kavita Shukla has won INDEX design award for her innovative design, FreshPaper, that helps keep food fresh for a longer period.
- British Indian billionaire brothers Srichand and Gopichand Hinduja have been presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for their contributions to UK's Asian community.
ECONOMY
- Allaying fears of slowdown in China, President Xi Jinping has said at the G-20 summit in Russia that the country's fundamentals are sound and have responsible economic policies.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon set up a committee to examine feasibility of encrypted SMS-based fund transfers: Rajan.
- Another economic slowdown will impact the world in the next two years as the US and other major economies halt the printing of artificial money, a noted investment specialist predicted.
SPORTS
- World champion Sebastian Vettel captured pole position Saturday in a Red Bull one-two for the Italian Grand Prix.
